Makhachev Defends Welterweight Gold Against Ian Machado Garry
Welterweight champion Islam Makhachev (28-1) enters UFC 330 looking to continue his reign of dominance and further cement his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
Fighting out of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia, Makhachev has built an incredible résumé with victories over elite opponents including Alexander Volkanovski—twice—Charles Oliveira, and most recently Jack Della Maddalena, a victory that made him a two-division UFC champion. Now competing at 170 pounds, Makhachev seeks his first successful welterweight title defense.
Standing across from him is dangerous Irish contender Ian Machado Garry (17-1), who has rapidly ascended the welterweight ranks and now gets the biggest opportunity of his career.
Representing Dublin, Ireland, by way of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Machado Garry enters on a three-fight win streak and has impressed with victories over former champion Belal Muhammad, Carlos Prates, and Michael Page. Known for his striking precision, movement, and confidence, Garry aims to shock the MMA world and become the new king of the welterweight division.
Mackenzie Dern Makes First Strawweight Title Defense
The co-main event features UFC strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern (16-5) making her first title defense against No. 5 ranked challenger Gillian Robertson (17-8).
Dern, fighting out of Huntington Beach, California, has evolved into one of the division’s most dangerous competitors during her eight-year UFC run. With notable victories over Virna Jandiroba, Amanda Ribas, and Loopy Godinez, Dern now looks to establish herself as a dominant champion.
Robertson, originally from Niagara Falls, Canada and now fighting out of Port St. Lucie, Florida, has built her reputation as one of the division’s toughest and most resilient competitors. Since emerging from The Ultimate Fighter, Robertson has earned major wins over top contenders including Amanda Lemos, Marina Rodriguez, and Luana Pinheiro.
