Undefeated Puerto Rican Olympian faces Angelino Cordova for WBA Interim Flyweight World Title; Jamaine Ortiz vs. Steve Claggett co-headline in 140-lb showdown

ORLANDO, FL – Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) continues its 2025 momentum with another action-packed fight card as it brings MVP Fight Night to Orlando, Florida, on Saturday, August 23, live on DAZN. Headlining the night is Puerto Rico’s undefeated Olympian Yankiel “El Doctorcito” Rivera (7-0, 3 KOs), ranked #1 by the WBA, who will make his highly anticipated MVP debut against WBO International Champion Angelino “Huracan” Cordova (19-0-1, 12 KOs) in a 12-round battle for the WBA Interim Flyweight World Title.
Joining the main card in a high-stakes co-main event is Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz (19-2-1, 9 KOs), representing Puerto Rico and Worcester, Massachusetts, as he meets Canada’s Steve “The Dragon” Claggett (39-8-2, 27 KOs) in a 10-round super lightweight clash for the WBA Continental USA Title at 140 lbs.

RIVERA VS. CORDOVA: INTERIM GOLD ON THE LINE
A product of Bayamon and Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, 27-year-old Yankiel Rivera brings an unmatched pedigree into the ring. A 2020 Tokyo Olympian and multi-titleholder—including the WBA Continental, WBC Silver, and WBO Intercontinental belts—Rivera boasts a perfect 7-0 professional record since turning pro in 2022. His latest win came in December 2024, when he stopped Angel Gonzalez in the fourth round to defend his belts.
Now, Rivera looks to take a major step toward undisputed status.
“Fighting for the WBA interim World Championship is both an honor and another great challenge,” said Rivera. “Angelino is an extraordinary fighter, but I’ve been preparing for this moment since I first put on gloves. Puerto Rico, that belt is coming home!”
On the other side of the ring stands Angelino Cordova, a 29-year-old standout from Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela. Cordova holds a strong 19-0-1 record and made headlines in 2023 with a decisive win over former world champion Ángel “Tito” Acosta. In 2024, he faced Julio Cesar Martinez for the WBC world title, a bout ruled a no-contest due to Martinez’s doping violation. Now, Cordova seeks redemption and glory with interim gold in his sights.
CO-MAIN EVENT: ORTIZ VS. CLAGGETT – FIREWORKS AT 140 LBS
Riding a wave of momentum, Jamaine Ortiz returns to the spotlight after narrow decision losses against elite names like Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez. The 28-year-old rebounded in 2024 with a TKO of Cristian Mino and a UD win over Yomar Alamo in early 2025. With elite speed and resilience, Ortiz looks to secure another shot at world championship gold.
His opponent, Steve Claggett, has become Canada’s workhorse at super lightweight. Known for his grit and knockout power, Claggett challenged Teofimo Lopez in June 2024 for the WBO world title but came up short. Most recently, he delivered a statement TKO win over Eduardo Estela. With 27 knockouts across 49 fights, the 35-year-old “Dragon” brings veteran firepower into the bout.
